At MyCarPage, we recognize the importance of protecting your personal information. Our primary goal in collecting personal information is to make your vehicle ownership more enjoyable, economical and convenient by combining all your automotive needs in a single personalized location. Collection of Your Personal Information
In connection with providing the MyCarPage services, we will request that you voluntarily supply us with personally identifiable information, as well as other information to enhance the level, coverage and personalization of the MyCarPage services. In some cases, the MyCarPage service is provided to you through a sponsoring business that has provided us your personal information. Whether you provide additional information is entirely up to you. Not providing such information may preclude or limit your use of some MyCarPage features and benefits.
We may also collect information about your visit, including the pages you view, the links you click and other actions taken in connection with the MyCarPage site and services. We also collect certain standard information that your browser sends to every website you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and language, access times and referring Web site addresses to help us improve our services, determine your interest in particular topics and measure the effectiveness of our customer communications.
When you receive e-mail from MyCarPage, we may track whether the e-mail has been opened and which links you click in order to provide you more focused e-mail communications or other information. In order to offer you a more consistent and personalized experience, we may also supplement the information we collect with information obtained from other companies. For example, we may use services from other companies that enable us to derive a general geographic area based on your IP address in order to customize certain services to your geographic area.
Use of Your Personal Information
MyCarPage collects and uses your personal information to operate and improve its sites and deliver the services or carry out the transactions you have requested. These uses may include providing you with more personalized services (effective customer service); making the sites or services easier to use by eliminating the need for you to repeatedly enter the same information; performing research and analysis aimed at improving our services and technologies; and displaying content and advertising that are customized to your interests and preferences.
We also use your personal information to communicate with you. We may send certain email reminders and service communications such as welcome letters, service reminders, and recall notices. We may also occasionally send you notices, surveys or promotional mailings to inform you of new product enhancements or services available from MyCarPage and its affiliates. If you do not want to receive such offers and mailings, you can elect to opt out of receiving future e-mail by following the opt-out instructions provided in the e-mail or updating your My Account preferences on your MyCarPage.
Sharing of Your Personal Information
Except as described in this policy, we will not disclose your personal information outside of MyCarPage and its controlled subsidiaries and affiliates without your consent. Some MyCarPage features allow you to choose to share your personal information with select MyCarPage partners so that they can contact you about their products, services or offers. The MyCarPage service may be co-branded and offered in conjunction with another company. If you register for or use such services, both MyCarPage and the other company may receive information collected in conjunction with the co-branded services.
We occasionally hire other companies to provide limited services on our behalf, such as handling the processing and delivery of mailings, providing customer support, processing transactions, or performing statistical analysis of our services. Those companies will be permitted to obtain only the personal information they need to deliver the service
They are required to maintain the confidentiality of the information and are prohibited from using it for any other purpose. We may access and/or disclose your personal information if we believe such action is necessary to: (a) comply with the law or legal process served on MyCarPage; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of MyCarPage (including the enforcement of our agreements); or (c) act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of MyCarPage services or members of the public.
Security of Your Personal Information
The security of your personal information is important to us. We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission, and once we receive it. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, however. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. We urge you to take every precaution to protect your personal data when you are on the Internet. Change your passwords often, use a combination of letters and numbers, and make sure you use a secure browser.
Use of Cookies
MyCarPage uses "cookies" to enable you to sign in to our services and to help personalize your online experience. A cookie is a small text file that is placed on your hard disk by a Web page server. Cookies contain information that can later be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you. Cookies cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer.
MyCarPage uses cookies to store your preferences and other information on your computer in order to save you time by eliminating the need to repeatedly enter the same information and to display your personalized content and appropriate advertising on your later visits to these sites.
When you sign in to MyCarPage, your unique ID number is saved in an encrypted cookie on your hard disk. This cookie allows you to move from page to page throughout the site without having to sign in again on each page. MyCarPage also uses cookies to improve the sign in experience. For example, your e-mail address may be stored in a cookie that will remain on your computer after you sign out. This cookie allows your e-mail address to be pre-populated, so that you will only need to type your password the next time you sign in.
You have the ability to accept or decline cookies. Most Web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. If you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to sign in or use some MyCarPage features services that depend on cookies.
Use of Web Beacons
MyCarPage Web pages may contain electronic images known as Web beacons - sometimes called single-pixel gifs - that may be used to assist in delivering cookies on our sites and allow us to count users who have visited those pages and to deliver co-branded services. We may include Web beacons in promotional e-mail messages or our newsletters in order to determine whether messages have been opened and acted upon.
MyCarPage may also employ Web beacons from third parties in order to help us compile aggregated statistics and determine the effectiveness of our promotional campaigns. We prohibit Web beacons on our sites from being used by third parties to collect or access your personal information.
Finally, we may work with other companies that advertise on MyCarPage to place Web beacons on their sites in order to allow us to develop statistics on how often clicking on an advertisement on a MyCarPage results in a purchase or other action on the advertiser's site.
Use of Third Party Ad Networks
MyCarPage my use third-party ad servers or ad networks, to display advertisements on MyCarPage web pages. Some of these ad networks may place a persistent cookie on your computer in order to recognize your computer each time they send you an online advertisement. In this way, ad networks may compile information about where you, or others who are using your computer, saw their advertisements and determine which ads are clicked on. This information allows an ad network to deliver targeted advertisements that they believe will be of most interest to you. MyCarPage does not have access to the cookies that may be placed by the third-party ad servers or ad networks.
E-mail this Page to a Friend
Many of the pages on MyCarPage include a feature that permits visitors to electronically forward that page to someone else by clicking on a link. The sender must provide his or her e-mail address, as well as that of the recipient. The sender's information is used only in the case of transmission errors and to let the recipient know who sent the page. Neither the sender's information nor the recipient's information is used for any other purpose.
Our Community Services
MyCarPage provides a number of ways that you may communicate with other visitors and with us, which are part of our community (the "Community Services"). The Community Services include our Message Boards, Blogs, Photo Gallery and a variety of other MyCarPage features.
In order to add content to the MyCarPage Community Services, you must first become a member of MyCarPage and agree to our Service Terms of Use. The Service Terms of Use sets forth a number of information sharing and disclosure practices for our Community Services, and accordingly supplements this Privacy Policy.
We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of 13 or allow such persons to become members of MyCarPage. If you are under 13, please do not attempt to register as a member or send any information about yourself to us. In the event that we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under age 13, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe that we might have any information from or about a child under 13, please contact us through our Contact Us form.
Visitor-Submitted Content
MyCarPage provides a number of ways you may communicate with other visitors on MyCarPage. This includes our Consumer Ratings and Reviews, Message Board and Blog entries and the submission to us of general questions or comments. All of your communications made to or through those services are referred to as your "Visitor-Submitted Content." Surveys
Occasionally we conduct visitor surveys to better target our content to our audience or for the benefit of third parties with whom we do business. Accordingly, sometimes the aggregate survey results are shared with our advertisers and partners. In some cases, the MyCarPage service is provided to you through a sponsoring business in which case MyCarPage may conduct a sales follow-up or customer service survey on behalf of the sponsoring business. In these cases, your survey responses will be provided to the sponsoring business to help them improve the services they provide you.
Links to Other Web Sites
MyCarPage contains links to many other Web sites not operated by us, including sites where you can obtain automotive products and services. However, this Privacy Policy only applies to MyCarPage and the information we collect, and we are not responsible for the privacy polices or practices of any other Web sites. Third-Party Ad Servers
The MyCarPage service sometimes uses third-party advertising companies and advertising networks to serve ads. These third-party advertising companies and advertising networks may use information (not including your name, address, e-mail address or telephone number) about your visits to MyCarPage in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. We also may place "Web beacons" on MyCarPage web pages in conjunction with cookies utilized by these third-party advertising companies, which are used to target advertisements on MyCarPage and other Web sites. Web beacons, sometimes called "pixel tags," are small strings of code that are placed on Web pages. Use of our third party advertising companies' cookies is subject to their own privacy policies.
